Pancake house Upstairs

Once a month, my daughter and I have a special tradition: enjoying pancakes at the Amsterdamse Bos. Our favorite pancake house there, surrounded by trees, feels like a second home. The staff knows us by name, and the familiar smell of batter on the griddle always makes us smile. But last Saturday, we decided to change things up and go into the city. I’d heard about Pancake House Upstairs, known for being the smallest pancake house in Europe. With only three tables, it promised a cozy and unique experience.

As we climbed the narrow, very Dutch steep staircase, I could see the excitement on my daughter’s face. The tiny dining room welcomed us with its cozy charm, and we felt so lucky to snag one of the three tables. The atmosphere was unlike anything we’d ever experienced before; it felt like we had discovered a hidden gem, tucked away from the bustling streets below.

The menu was simple yet enticing, featuring a variety of both sweet and savory pancakes. My daughter opted for a classic Dutch pancake with powdered sugar and fresh strawberries, while I couldn’t resist the temptation of a apple cinnamon pancake ,My Favorite

As we waited for our order, we admired the vintage decor on the walls. The tiny space was full of character, with each piece having its own story. When our pancakes arrived, the smell was amazing. The first bite was pure bliss—fluffy, flavorful, and perfectly cooked. My daughter’s eyes lit up with delight as she enjoyed each bite of her apple cinnamon-topped treat.

The friendly owner chatted with us, sharing the history of the pancake house and its reputation for being a hidden gem in Amsterdam. Despite its small size, the Pancake House Upstairs had a big heart, evident in the care and passion put into every dish.

As we finished our meal, we knew this wouldn’t be our last visit. The pancakes were indeed delicious, and the experience was one to remember. While the Amsterdamse Bos would always hold a special place in our hearts, Pancake House Upstairs had won us over with its charm and delectable offerings.

Stepping back onto the bustling streets, my daughter and I exchanged smiles, knowing we had discovered a new favorite spot in our beloved city. The adventure had been a success, and we looked forward to many more pancake-filled weekends, both in the serene woods of the Bos and the quaint corners of Amsterdam’s city center.
